Researchers studied patients at the Veterans Affairs health system, and they found that if they received a colonoscopy their disease death risk-rate reduced by 61 percent. According to upi.com, they found a "colonoscopy was associated with reduced mortality from colorectal cancer -- although the link was stronger for patients with left-sided cancer than for right-sided cancer." Researcher wrote that learning that a colonoscopy is more effective in preventing death from colon cancer on the left side versus the right side of the colon is revolutionary information.
