According to one of the largest and most definitive studies conducted on how diet affects people's health, the health benefit of fruits, veggies and legumes levels off after three servings a day. The study followed diet and health histories of 135,335 people between the ages of 35 and 70 years-old from 18 different countries. While they found that those who had diets rich in fruits, vegetables, and legumes had a reduced chance for not only cardiovascular disease, but also death and disease, in general. However, it's important to remember that fruits and veggies do a lot more for your health than protect your heart. These foods also provide the minerals and nutrients necessary for a wide variety of body functions.
