A new invasive species of parasitic ticks have entered the United States. According to Gizmodo, a Quest Diagnostics study says cases of tick-borne Lyme disease have increased in all 50 states. The study found there was a rise in positive results of Lyme in both 2016 and 2017. The majority of results were concentrated in the Northeastern United States. Harvey W. Kaufman, M.D., the senior medical director for Quest Diagnostics, said, “We hypothesize that these significant rates of increase may reinforce other research suggesting changing climate conditions that allow ticks to live longer and in more regions may factor into disease risk.”
